This homemade vanilla ice cream sweetened with maple syrup is easy to make and such a yummy treat on a hot summer day. The maple syrup in it gives it a lovely, light maple flavor.
One of our favorite treats to eat in the summer is ice cream so a few years ago I bought an ice cream maker. I had never realized how easy it was to make a delicious batch of ice cream using simple ingredients. I keep our ice cream maker’s bowl in the freezer at all times so it’s always ready to go when the ice cream mood strikes!
Over the years I have played with substituting the sugar with maple syrup and the amount needed. We now have a homemade vanilla ice cream recipe sweetened with maple syrup that we use regularly and can use as a base and add mix-ins as needed.
Ingredients Needed to Make Ice Cream
- heavy whipping cream
- milk (we use 2% or whole)
- maple syrup
- eggs
- vanilla
Why eggs?
Not all ice cream recipes call for eggs but I like to put them because it gives the ice cream a smooth and creamy texture. I do not cook the eggs while making this recipe but if you are nervous about it, you certainly can. In order to do this, simply mix the milk and eggs in a pot and heat to 160°. Then let it chill before adding the other ingredients and making the ice cream.
Directions
- With a whisk, whip the eggs and maple syrup together.
- Add the whipping cream, milk, and vanilla and whisk until well combined.
- Place in ice cream maker and follow it’s directions to make ice cream. Our ice cream maker just involves pushing the “ice cream” button – so simple!
So easy, so good! Let me know your favorite ice cream mix-ins!

I tried this today in our Amish Immergood hand crank ice cream maker. After 35 minutes of churning, I was starting to get nervous it wouldn’t come together (recipes with sugar take about 20 minutes of cranking), but I worried needlessly because it did come together and is fantastic! Thanks for sharing this recipe!
