There are so many different lip balms at the store to choose from and you might think, “Wouldn’t it be so much easier to just buy it?” Yes, that may be the case, but making homemade lip balm brings me joy, the process is simple, and it is quick to make.
Oils Used in Lip Balm
To make lip balm, oils, butters, and wax are combined. There are many different oils and butters to choose from. The ingredients I used in this recipe are listed below:
- Beeswax – Protects lips and helps retain moisture.
- Cocoa butter – Protective and hydrating.
- Shea butter – Heals and moisturizes.
- Coconut oil – Moisturizing.
- Sweet almond oil -Soothes and moisturizes.
- Sunflower oil – Rich in vitamins E, A, C and D. Helps regenerate new skin cells.
Tools Needed to Make Homemade Lip Balm
- Pot
- Pyrex measuring cup or glass mason jar
- Spoon
- Lip balm tubes or pots
- Lip balm tray
- Syringe
How to Make Lip Balm
Combine oils, butters, and wax in a Pyrex measuring cup or glass mason jar. Place the glass container into a pot of water and heat over medium heat until melted. Remove from heat, and If using essential oils, stir them in.
Prepare the lip balm containers. I use tubes and find this holder handy to support the tubes and prevent spills.
Carefully pour melted oils and wax into the lip balm containers. I have found that using a medicine syringe works best for me.
Once the lip balm containers are filled, allow them to sit at room temperature until they harden, put the lids on, and you’re done!
